What is a PTO shaft?
A PTO shaft is a highly engineered mechanical driveline component consisting of universal joints, a telescoping tubing system, and safety shields. It physically connects the tractor’s output spline to the implement’s input gearbox, powering machinery like mowers, balers, and tillers.
How to measure a PTO shaft?
To ensure a safe and proper fit, measure the shaft in its fully collapsed (closed) position. Measure the overall length from the outside edge of one yoke to the outside edge of the opposite yoke. Additionally, measure the cross-and-bearing (U-joint) dimensions to match the horsepower rating of your tractor.
How to remove PTO shaft from gearbox?
Safety first: ensure the tractor engine is turned off and the key is removed. Locate the locking mechanism on the implement end of the shaft—this is typically a push-pin, a slide collar, or a quick-disconnect yoke.
